Multisensory integration in action control

The integration of multisensory information is an essential mechanism in perception and action control. Research in multisensory integration is concerned with how the information from the different sensory modalities, such as the senses of vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and proprioception, are integrated to a coherent representation of objects (for an overview, see e.g., Calvert et al., ...

WYSAHIWYG (What You See And Hear Is What You Get): Learning from photocartography in mapping the cross-modal features of the soundscape

“Measuring” the soundscape is like trying to measure the ocean, the forest, or the city—one dimensional metrics and color-coded maps are inadequate to meaningfully describe the myriad complex conditions, relationships, and effects which comprise the soundscape’s impact upon us, and our impact upon it. In order to better understand the subjective experience of the soundscape, we need new methods...

What you see is not (always) what you hear: induced gamma band responses reflect cross-modal interactions in familiar object recognition.

Gamma-band responses (GBRs) are hypothesized to reflect neuronal synchronous activity related to activation of object representations. However, it is not known whether synchrony in the gamma range is also related to multisensory object processing. We investigated the effect of semantic congruity between auditory and visual information on the human GBR. The paradigm consisted of a simultaneous p...
